Incorporated in 2002, the CCMIA is a national council representing the provincial and territorial music industry associations in Canada.
Our members include: Alberta Music, Manitoba Music, Music and Film in Motion, Music BC, Music Nova Scotia, Music NWT, Music PEI, Music Yukon, Music/Musique NB, MusicNL, MusicOntario, and SaskMusic.
These member MIAs include more than 10,000 members across Canada, including bands/artists, managers, publicists, distributors, record labels, studios, photographers, producers, engineers, and other industry professionals.
The CCMIA acts as the national voice of the member MIAs in all matters concerning the music industry and provides national programs and services for its members across the country.
- Advocacy: We advocate in regard to pressing matters concerning the music industry including copyright law, regulatory matters, tax issues, and funding for music production and development.
- Research: We fund important studies on the state of the Canadian music industry, including the 2013 Sound Analysis report conducted by Nordicity on behalf of the Canadian Independent Music Association.
- Music-related projects: We administer projects such as the Canadian Songwriter Challenge (launching Spring 2015, ending 2021), which involves an annual series of MIA-coordinated songwriting retreats for artists across the country.
The CCMIA is an advisory member of the Music Export Canada Advisory Council.
