For many years of socialist rule in Hungary, rock music WAS the cultural underground and a bona-fide agent of change. Post-liberation, a rejuvenated Budapest of re-claimed “ruinpubs” gave birth to a thriving indie music scene. It wasn’t long before euro-integrated Hungary was home to one of the largest mainstream, underground and world music festivals in Europe.
